Lummi Nation Schools Technology Agreement

For Parents and Students

(Aligned to Education Board Policies 3090 and 4135)

This agreement explains the rules for using technology at Lummi Nation School (LNS). It covers how students should use the network, internet, and electronic devices safely and responsibly. By signing this, both the student and parent/guardian agree to follow these rules.

1. Student Responsibilities

Acceptable Use of the Network

Students can use the LNS network for school-related work only. This includes:

  • Creating projects, videos, podcasts, and other digital work for school.

  • Participating in educational blogs, websites, and email communication.

  • Using personal devices on the school network, with permission, if they are safe and have updated virus protection.

Unacceptable uses of the network include:

  • Downloading games, music, videos, or software not allowed by the school.

  • Hacking, trying to break into systems, or spreading viruses.

  • Bullying, harassing, or posting harmful content online.

  • Accessing inappropriate materials, like pornographic or offensive content.

  • Using devices to disturb others or cause problems with the school network.

Internet Safety and Security

  • Never share personal information, like your address or phone number, online.

  • Keep your passwords private and do not share them. You are responsible for anything done under your account.

  • If you see something inappropriate or unsafe online, tell a teacher or staff member immediately.

Monitoring and Accountability

LNS can monitor all technology use. Students should not expect privacy when using school devices or the internet.

  • Trying to bypass the school's internet filters is not allowed.

  • Any email that isn't related to schoolwork will be blocked.

  • If you see someone breaking these rules, tell a teacher.

Damages and Liability

LNS is not responsible for problems with the internet or school devices, including delays or technical issues.

  • Students are responsible for returning school devices in good condition. If something is damaged or lost, you may need to pay for repairs.

2. Electronics Use Policy

All devices and programs provided by LNS are for school-related use only. Copying software or using it in ways not allowed is prohibited.

Personal devices like music players, phones, and gaming consoles are not allowed in class, meetings, or group activities unless the teacher says it's okay for educational purposes. Students can use personal devices before and after school or during lunch (grades 7-12 only).

If a student uses personal electronics inappropriately or damages school property, they will face consequences and may need to pay for repairs.

3. Parent/Guardian Responsibilities

Parents/guardians should help monitor their child’s use of technology both at home and at school.

  • It’s a good idea to check what your child is doing online and talk to them about online safety, including risks like cyberbullying or harmful content.

  • If there are any concerns or technical issues, contact the school right away.

4. Consequences for Violations

If students don’t follow the rules in this agreement, they could face disciplinary actions, including:

  • Losing access to LNS technology and the network.

  • Suspension or other consequences, according to the LNS Student Handbook.
