LNS Welcome Back Letter: Principal Villars.

Greetings Lummi Families.

Welcome to the 2021-2022 school year. We are glad that you are joining us as we embark on an exciting year of teaching and learning at Lummi Nation School. To the new Kindergarten class, welcome to the family. There will be a meet and greet for kindergarten students and their families Tuesday August 31st. We look forward to seeing your academic and personal growth over the next 13 years. The first day of instruction for all LNS students is September 1st, 2021.

After the last year of functioning in a fully virtual, and then hybrid setting we are excited to be return to five full days of in-person instruction in the building. Due to the ongoing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic we will continue to follow the guidance of Lummi Public Health. This will include the requirement for all students to wear masks while indoors and on the buses. Social distancing of at least 3 feet between students where practicable will also be required, and regular handwashing and/or the use of hand sanitizers. All visitors to our campus will also be required to wear masks. The Lummi Nation School continues to provide access to COVID-19 testing and vaccinations for students over 12 years of age, and staff of LNS, and their families. A complete explanation of Lummi Nations School District’s health and safety protocols will be posted on our website.

This year we will renew our commitment to excellence in all that we do, as we seek to provide world class instruction daily with the expectation that all students can learn and succeed. We will continue to provide students with opportunities to address academic deficiencies, to build numeracy and literacy skills, and for our high school students, make up missing credits, to be ready for college or the work force. We will continue to implement initiatives to promote teaching and learning, and to engage all our stakeholders in the process of educating our students.

I am excited about all that this new school year has to offer and look forward to working collectively as a family to ensure that our students are provided with the best educational experience possible, to be critical thinkers, responsible citizens, and prepared to be successful in their endeavors when they leave LNS.
